Pineapple fair concludes at Andro Thambalnu market

The 7th State Level Pineapple Fair, organised by Development Organisation Andro Kendra (DOAK) came to an end today.
Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir and Andro AC MLA Th Shyamkumar graced the closing function of the fair as chief guest and president respectively.
MLA I Ibohalbi, Raj Medicity RSBY Project Manager M Sanathoi and AR Thoubal Commander Deep Vijay Singh Basra were the guests of honour.
The fair which kick started on June 29 was organised under the theme, 'Grow for sustainable and induce work culture'.
Prizes to four best pineapple farmers of the fair were handed over in today's function, which also witnessed cultural programmes and musical concert.
Konthoujam Inao, Maibam Memcha, Loitongbam Tunal and Loitongbam Sanahanbi won first secon, third and fourth prizes respectively.

Speaking at the occasion, Md Abdul Nasir said it is the responsibility of the Government to support farmers in their endeavour.
As an Agriculture Minister, he would do all the needful in this regard, Nasir said.
In his speech, Th Shyamkumar said that people did not feel comfortable to visit Andro in the past.
However, the area is now becoming a favourite place for the people of Manipur, Shyamkumar said.
Observing that Andro is suitable to develop as a tourist destination, Shyamkumar said that the State Government is working on it.
Saying that the State Government has sanctioned Rs 12 crore to develop Shri Shri Govindajee temple at Kaina, Shyamkumar expressed hope that the Government would develop other tourist places as well.
DOAK representative K Abungcha said that people of Andro, Poiroukhongjin, Tentha and Angtha are prospering through pineapple farming.
The fair was organised with an aim to support these farmers, he added.
