Ukhrul, October 02 2014 :
School children, civilians, government servants and men in uniform kept themselves busy on the streets in Ukhrul headquarters on Gandhi Jayanti today as they took their own responsibility to maintain cleanliness in the town, a kind witnessed after the vexed CrPC days.
In different localities across Ukhrul town, civilians came out from their homes and cleaned up their own courtyards and lanes while Assam Rifles troops led by DIG (10 Sec) Brig Peeyush Pandey and 41 AR commandant Col.Gaurav Bose kept themselves busy at Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) ground site.
School children under the aegis of Raphei Katamnao Long (RKL), as part of the town beautification drive, worked through from Gandhi Chowk to Wino Bazaar, and also teamed up with AR personnel at TNL ground for the cleanliness drive.
While at the mini secretariat premises, the government employees mopped up with social work in keeping with Swachh Bharat Mission.
Ukhrul deputy commissioner Modak Hrisheekesh Arvind led all his departmental staff for a "sanitation pledge" to dedicate a 100-hour of labour for cleanliness - the oath which was taken at 9.30 am inside the DRDA training hall.
Police jawans were also seen supervising with the various cleanliness drives held across the streets in Ukhrul.
