The Forum for Social Harmony (FORSH) has called upon the people to teach a lesson to the businessmen who are selling essential commodities at exorbitant price taking the advantage of recently lifted prolonged economic blockade in the national highways and prevailing transportation impasse in the state.
Co-convener of the FORSH, Joy Khuman today speaking to reporters at a press conference held at Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN)'s office at Nambamchuthek, Imphal today, observed that because of the 68 day economic blockade imposed in the two main life lines of state by some Naga bodies made prices of essential foods items sky rocketed.
Besides, passenger fares have also been hiked two fold due to fuel scarcity, he condemned saying that even though petrol pumps remained opened, vehicle fuel is available in black market at high prices.
He also cautioned the businessmen of the main markets in Imphal not to hike the prices of the essential commodities taking undue advantage of the prevailing situation of the state.
He also urged the state government to take up appropriate action to check selling of in the grey market at higher price.
The government should also shoe in reality the commitment to make the NH 53 fully operational by July 15, the co-convener said while drawing attention of the government to discuss ban on trucks against transporting more than 9 tons by court in NH 53 .
He further urged the government to arrange godowns at Jiri or Silchar (Assam) for storing essential items for procuring into the state.
FORSH also demanded the government to arrange adequate fertilizers to the farmers at affordable price.
