Imphal, October 23 2009: Two persons were shot dead by a combined team of Imphal West police commandos and 39 Assam Rifles today at about 8.25 pm at Kameng Zendoubung under Lamshang police station.

One grenade and a .32 pistol were recovered from their possession, said sources.

The grenade was found with the safety pin unlocked and bomb experts are still trying to defuse it, at the time of filing this report late in the evening.

On the other hand, two persons sustained injuries when a Chinese hand grenade hurled by two unidentified youths who came in a Yamaha motor cycle exploded at a house in the high security zone area of Keishampat Thokchom Leikai here at around 6.20 pm today.

The house in which the bomb attack was carried out belongs to one Thokchom Budhachandra (75) who retired from service as the Assistant Survey Officer in the Settlement Department.

In the explosion, Gourashyam (34) s/o of Budhachandra and Takhellambam Sunil (25) s/o Naran who lives in the neighbouring house sustained injuries.

Gourashyam was hit by bomb splinter on side of his stomach on the right and Sunil on his left ear.

However, the injuries were not serious.

Some flower pots and window panes were also broken when the grenade which landed and exploded in the courtyard.

Bodies taken: The body of Moirangthem Tiken alias Abung of Pukhao Khabam Mamang Leikai who was hacked to death by a mob yesterday over the incident of rape and subsequent killing of a young woman in Pukhao Khabam under Lamlai Police Station has been handed over to his family members after post-mortem at RIMS today.

On the other hand, the body of S Johnson (23) s/o Noren of Hiyanglam Lai Pangalba who was reportedly shot dead by a combined force during an encounter at Sarik Kongjil under Waikhong Police Station on the night of October 20 has also been taken over by the family members after post-mortem at RIMS.

Though the combined force claimed to have killed Johnson during a shoot out, his family members, have asserted that Johnson had been picked up by a Commando team from near Kakching Irengband where he was waiting for a jeep to go and to pick up his wife who had gone for Ningol Chakkouba.

Body recovered: The body of a 23-year old youth, who is suspected to be the injured cadre among other PLA cadres who escaped in the ambush laid on them by a combined force of Assam Rifles and suspected armed cadres of NSCN (I-M) at Nungsithaibi under Yairipok Police Station in the evening of October 19, was found at Tangkhul Hundung Itham Lamkhai, 55 kms to the west of Litan Police Station yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Khundongbam Chetan alias Moba alias Langamba (23) s/o Inao of Maibam Leikai Liwa Lambi.

According to family members, Chetan left home and became a cadre of the proscribed PLA around two years back.

The body has been claimed by the family members after post-mortem examination at RIMS today.
