Imphal, October 23 2009:
The proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has exhorted the people to intensify the ongoing movement against Chief Minister O Ibobi and his council
of ministers.
A press release issued by Senior Publicity Officer, Department of Publicity, UNLF, Manipur, Ksh Yoiheiba today stated that in the wake of the 'mass movenent' demanding the resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi triggered by the July 23 incident of 'fake encounter' at Khwairamband market, there was a brief lull of 'fake encounter' killing by the security forces.
However, the trend of killing innocent people has returned now, said the press release.
Yoiheiba alleged that on Tuesday, the Ningol Chakkouba day, one Shougrakpam Johnson (23), son of S Noren of Hiyanglam Lai Pangalba was picked up by a team of Thoubal police commandos while he was waiting for a passenger vehicle to bring home his wife who had gone to her parental house to partake the feast of Ningol Chakkouba.
Shougrakpam Johnson was killed later by the security forces at a place called Sarik Konjil at 9 pm the same day.
The UNLF said that Johnson had quit the UNLF four years ago and that man had nothing to do with the outfit ever since he left it.
Terming his killing another example of 'fake encounter', the UNLF pooh-poohed the claim of the security forces that Johnson was killed in an encounter.
The claim of the security forces that one AK-56 rifle with a loaded magazine and a China-made hand grenade were recovered from the slain man was a cooked-up charge.
Meanwhile, the UNLF also appealed to the general public to intensify the ongoing 'movement' against the Chief Minister of the state, MLAs/Ministers and the police commandos who can not understand the 'divide and destroy policy' of India.
This is a life and death movement for the Manipuris, the press release added.
