Normal life crippled as rebel group observed 'National Black Day'
against the merger of Manipur

Normalcy in the state was put to complete halt as various rebel groups operating in the region today observed 'National Back Day' against the merger of the state to the Indian Union which they term it as forced annexation.
Almost all the rebel group called total shut down as a part of the observance.
Almost all shops and business establishment at all districts of the state bore deserted look during the total shut down which began from 12 midnight yesterday.
Major rebel group the CorCOm which comprises of 4 rebel groups - RPF, UNLF, PREPAK, PREPAK (PRO) , ASUK- which comprises of KYKL and KCP and other groups like Peoples' War Group etc, observed the day as total shut down.
In Imphal streets except some private vehicles as well as government vehicles were seen moving however, almost all passenger service vehicles of all kinds stay off of the road.
No shops in Thangal bazaar, Paona Bazar , Waheng Leikai, Nagamapal were seen opened.
Bank remain closed and government offices bore a deserted looks with very less attendance and no visitors.
There were no report of any untoward incident during the black day observance.
Meanwhile security measures have been tighten up in all districts of Manipur.
After British left Manipur in August 14 and 15 midnight in 1947 handing over the administration to the King of Manipur, the then Maharajah of Manipur along with the intellectual of those days framed a constitution and in 1948 Manipur witness the first adult franchise in the whole of the South East asis when India was preparing to become a republic.
Interestingly , in 1949, September 21, Manipur's Maharaja signed the merger agreement with the Union of India in a controversial way .
After merger of the state Manipur takes 25 years to become a full fledged state of the Indian union.
Earlier it was kept in the status of a colonial status.
