Border issue is under Home Ministry, says MEA

What happens on the border is handled by the Sentinels of (that) border, said Syed Akbaruddin, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs in a reply to the question raised by The Sangai Express over the border issue in Indo( Manipur) � Myanmar border at the weekly press conference held today in New Delhi.
"The responsibility ( in this case) is with the Ministry of Home Affairs" said the official spokesperson of the Ministry.
Dismissing the question on the recent report of an agreement with Myanmar for a joint combat on cross border insurgency, the spokesperson stated that while the matter has not come to his knowledge he cannot comment on it as a diplomat.

A report titled 'India- Myanmar ink deal to jointly combat insurgency and criminal activities" in the Economic Times dated December 11 stated that India has concluded a breakthrough boundary agreement with Myanmar and to jointly combat cross-border insurgency and criminal activities.
The report further mentioned that the agreement piloted by the External Affairs Ministry encompasses both land and maritime boundary and this will be the focus of attention during the ongoing visit of Myanmar's Army chief General Min Aung Hlaing in New Delhi.
The visiting Myanmar Army Chief will also meet President Pranab Mukherjee, besides meeting his Indian counterpart Bikram Singh and Defence Minister AK Antony.
Most of the land boundary with Myanmar is now demarcated, the reports said quoting an official source.
Meanwhile when contacted by The Sangai Express , officials in the Home Ministry were not aware of the developments nor of the joint combat on insurgency.
