Imphal flooded in a night's downpour

Imphal, September 11 2012:
Many parts of capital city were flooded following the non-stop heavy downpour last night.
According to reports received from Meteorological Office stationed at Imphal Airport, the rainfall which started at around 11 pm yesterday was recorded at 84.8 mm.
In the morning today, the rate of rainfall recorded was 17.50 mm while it was a mere 1.3mm in the evening.
The rainfall occurred non-stop the whole night causing flood in and around Imphal city.
Parts of Singjamei, Sagolband, Keishamthong, Yaiskul, Wangkhei were flooded as the drains were clogged.
Flood affected people have pointed out that the main reason behind waterlogging in most part of Imphal and its surrounding area is due to poor drainage system.
Overflowing of Waishel Maril causes areas around it to experience flood in an overnight.

Residential areas in Keishamthong, Sagolband, Keishampat, Sega Road, Thouda Bhabok Leikai, etc were flooded with rainwater.
Even the area on the northern side of side of Hueiyen Lanpao office remained knee deep in rainwater causing inconvenience to staffs coming to the office.
The high security zone, Babupara area, which is located in the heart of the city, was also flooded in the downpour.
The road along Imphal Secretariat was submerged in water and people have to wade through or drive along the road with great difficulty.
