Ten hour bandh called at Shangpur area

The Saikul Area Foot-Hills' Naga Association (SAFNA) has announced a 10 hour bandh in Shangpur area on September 13 against the inclusion of some villages in the ensuing Panchayat election.
The bandh in Shangpur Area will begin from 6 am and will be in force till 4 pm.
This was, among others, decided during a public meeting held at Irong Aze village today under the aegis of Saikul Area Foot-Hills' Naga Association (SAFNA).

Mathankhui Zimik said that villages such as Irong Part - I, Irong Part - II, Somrei, Soraland, Tanghul Khullen, Komlaching, Lungthar, Heinganglok and Kharan etc, have been forcefully included in the scheduled September 13 Panchayat election.
Stating that it was very unfortunate, he added that under no circumstances these villages could exercise the franchise during the said September 13 election.
According to the SAFNA, these villages have been already included in Autonomous District Council (ADC) constituency.
The public meeting after a brain storming discussion finally adopted three-point resolutions such as, not to participate in the forth coming Panchayat election 2012; Reaffirming the identity as tribal's and to remain in Manipur District Council and also announced to prohibit the people movement on September 13 in Shangpur Area from 6am to 4pm. Among others, the public meeting was attended by United Naga Council(UNC), Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Naga Aza Long(TNAL), Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (TAKL), Shangpur Long and Phowaibi Area vaiphei chief Assiciation.
Mentioned can be made that a 24-hour-general strike has been imposed in Sadar Hills starting from September 12 midnight till midnight of September 13. The general strike has been jointly imposed by Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, KSO Sadar Hills, TSA Sadar Hills, COPTAM Sadar Hills, Saikul Area Naga People Organization and Vaiphei Chief Association.
