Seminar celebrates Anganghal's birth anniversary

The 120th birth anniversary of Mahakavi Hijam Anganghal Singh was celebrated at the Manipur University Manipuri Department auditorium today along with a seminar on 'Contemporary Relevance of Mahakavi Hijam Anganghal Singh' .
As chief guest and functional president respectively MU Vice Chancellor Prof H Nandakumar Sarma and Head of Manipuri Department Prof P Gunindro led the gathering in offering floral tributes at the photo of the revered literary figure.
Dean of School of Humanities Prof E Dinamani singh and Prof P Nabachandra Singh attended the celebration at the guests of honour.
The event was jointly organised by Manipuri Department and Tungee Yaiphanaba Shemba Kanglup, Samurou.
Highlighting Hijam anganghal's invaluable contribution to Manipuri literature, Prof Nandakumar singling out 'Khamba Thoibi' stated that thorough perusal of the highly acclaimed literary work will enable the reader not only understand the ancient Manipuri traditions but can also spur the individual to strive for spurring positive changes in the society.

Noting romantic aesthetics in anganghal's literatures, the Vice Chancellor regretted that romantic flavour or taste has significantly declined among the present generation for mobile phones have replaced the erstwhile romantic conveyances.
He also advised faculty members as well as students of Manipuri Department to work harder in order to plug the growing gap of reputable poets in Manipur.
Hailing Hijam Anganghal as a poet and author whose works provided insightful messages on the prevailing as well as future society, Prof Gunindro expressed hope that the present generation follow the path shown by the great poet and contribute their mite towards enriching the Manipuri literature.
At the seminar held with Prof S Sanatombi as the moderator, Dr Makhonmani Mangshava deliberated on 'Pena (traditional musical instrument) and Mahakavi Anganghal', N Sanatomba Singh presented a detailed account of Anganghal's 'Jahera', while Dr Bijita elaborated on the relevance of natural beauty and human behaviour as contained in Anganghal's 'Thambal' .
In the afternoon session of the seminar, Dr Ch Rajketan harped on the poet's 'Yaithing Konu' novel while research scholar Laishram Ibomcha elucidated on the patriotic aspects of Anganghal's literary works.
