Clean environment is a requirement for the survival of human race and other animals in modern era as the population and the development works are fast growing, according to Chief Minister of Manipur O Ibobi.
He said that forests play an important role in maintaining a clean environment and therefore have permanent relationship with human beings.
O Ibobi was speaking at a function held today to inaugurate the newly constructed office building of Forest Department at Sanjenthong.

Stating that lack of manpower in the forest department is a major impediment to the conservation of state forest, reserved forest, protected forest and unclassified forest, O Ibobi revealed that the Government of Manipur has discussed with the departments concerned to have a green and clean environment.
Ibobi further stated that owing to the law and order situation of the state, the government is not able to deploy armed forest guards in the hill areas.
However, effort is on to deploy Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) and other well trained guards to protect the endangered forests of Manipur, added the Chief Minister.
He also informed that the government is trying to convert Khuga Dam as a tourist spot by planting more trees.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Shingsit said that the newly constructed building which cost Rs 1,65,00,000 would enable the Forest Department to have a stable head office.
Initially, the Forest Department had its head office at Mantripukhri and other places.
Meanwhile, elucidating the significance of forest and the role of Forest Department in the burning issues of global warming and natural calamities such as landslides and earthquake, Forest Minister, Th Debendra appealed to the staff of the Forest Department to work with dedication and sincerity as the forests are of prime importance to preserve the flora and fauna of Manipur.
Destruction of forests areas is the main reason of the global warming, added the Forest Minister.
