"CHECKLIST FOR A WELL-MANAGED YOUTH CLUB"
- Are the youth club office-bearers elected democratically by the members?
- Do members meet frequently to plan work?
- Does the youth club have Annual Action Plan (AAP) formulate by the members? How much of last year's programme was completed?
- Have responsibilities for various programmes in the current Annual Action Plan (AAP) been assigned to an individual or a group from amongst the club members?
- Does the club have a written budget based primarily on the programme of work? Does it have a plan for raising the required funds?
- Has the club properly safeguarded the expenditure of its fund i.e. funds are not being spent for wrong purposed?
- Do a high percentage of members get experience in the work of the club and do have defined responsibilities that contribute to its successes or failure?
- Has a satisfactory system of club records and reports been developed?
- Is atleast one planned meeting held each month? Is the programme for each club meeting communicated to members in advance?
- What percentage of members attends meetings regularly?
- Is systematic, continuous leadership training given to all members?
- Have the youth club leader developed a second line of leadership? (This is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to ensure the continuity of youth club.)
- Does the youth club a written constitution?
- Does a youth club have its own office?
"WHY SOME YOUTH CLUB FAIL"
- In sufficiency time, through and study in preparing the programmes.
- Starting the programmes too late in the year.
- Poorly selected programmes and lack of challenge.
- Indefinite and impractical goal.
- Ways and means not properly developed.
- Poor committee organization and work.
- Leaving too much of the planning and conduct of programmes to individuals or the committees-thus not having adequate participation of beneficiaries.
- Inadequate financing: Too much dependence on grants and donation.
- Lack of balance in selection of programmes not enough variety-too many items of the same type. Lack of follow-up of various programmes during the meetings.
- Failure on the part of all members to realize that it is programming rather that of small group with the club.
- Failure to use resource person or advisory committee in the planning of the programmes.
- Failure to develop a second-line of leadership.
- Some members allow personal political inclinations to interference with the working of the club and local interfere.
