Qualifications of a good youth club leader:
- Liked and respect by community.
- Sincere liking for youth.
- Strict standards of sportsmanship and honesty.
- Enthusiastic about youth club work.
- Good cooperator works well with others.
- Unselfish.
- Be willing to learn new ideas.
- Must be willing to develop skills.
- Must be faithful.
- Should enjoy working without compensation.
- Should tend to club selfishness and prevent the promotion of special interest of various people or communities.
- Develops a feeling of personal responsibility in the work.
Suggested steps for discovering youth club leader:
- Make an over-all survey of existing Clubs in your area and study it's propose, programmed and the leadership.
- Make a list of the active clubs leaders.
- Personal contact of prospective leaders.
- Appointment an individual to a committee and see if he accomplishes the job.
- Ask to function as an assistance on project to help carry out a campaign or drive.
- Use a prospective leader as specialist in particular field.
- Have made an occasional report or talk.
- Observation of individual behavior in group meetings.
Motivation youth club leader:
Motivation is the inner force within the individual which determines the kind of behavior display under various conditions.
Motivating persons to become youth club leaders:
- The prospective leader should understand that the activity is vital and necessary to community betterment. Should understand that the task as a leader will be dignified and honorable and that would gain the respect of many people by making a contribution to the youth club programmed. Every person has certain amount to pride in his community and many people can be influenced by appealing to this pride.
- The prospective leader should know that his friends, neighbors and club members want to serve.
- The prospective leader should know what is expected in terms of time to be devoted to youth club work. Also understand the importance of attending meetings. Do not however, make the task appear too difficult and scare away the prospective leaders.
- The prospective leader should realize the opportunity for personal satisfaction. Point out that once gets started goes about as far as want to go. The club leader's task is one of service to others and also gives the person a chance to do or part in community development. The leader will also get a lot of satisfaction from seeing the other club members grow and develop into the kind of citizens everyone will admire.
- The prospective leader should receive an assurance get necessary help and training. Without help and proper training the new leader would soon become discouraged and probably drop out.
- Approach the prospective club leader with confidence. Show confidence in the leader, in the youth club work. The leader will need to know to work with confidence people and need to develop this kind of confidence if planes to be a success.
Motivating youth club leaders to do a better job:
- Invite them to attend conference and camps: Through this contact able to find others doing the same job and facing similar problems. The leader will gain a new inspiration and perspective on performing task by taking to others having similar experiences. This also gives a perspective of small part in a large organization.
- Give responsibility to go ahead with the task: If the leaders have been selected with care expect to carry some responsibility, otherwise feel not need .The leader will feel the faith and confidence of the club members if, after being given responsibility, can prove can do the job. Usually it is best to start with only the responsibilities that the leader will have confidence in doing. Other things may be added as the leader grows in confidence.
- Inspire to do more by reading biographies of great leaders: The problems and discouragements that were overcome by leaders and are motivated to do more in fields.
