Drugs worth Rs 100 Cr seized, 4 held

Imphal, May 03 2023: In one of the biggest drug hauls in the State, Kangpokpi district police have seized 15.011 kilograms of heroin powder worth Rs 100 crore.

The huge seizure was made on May 1 at Kangpokpi police check post.

With the seizure of the drug, the district police arrested four persons including a woman.

All of them have been remanded to police custody till May 9 .

The four persons have been identified as Len David Sauntak (20), son of Khuplang Sauntak of Joljam village Churachandpur; Lunminsang Haokip (24), son of Seikholun Haokip of Khaopijang village Chura-chandpur; Mangkholun Haokip (27), son of Tongjapao Haokip of Toitung village Chandel; and RK Poukhurou (50), daughter of (L) Rt Khu of Khamason Karong village Senapati district.

On May 1 at around 9.10 am, according to the district police, a team of Kangpokpi police led by Officer-in-Charge Inspector Sunilkumar Singh, under the supervision of SP Th Vikramjit Singh, was conducting frisking and checking at the station check post when they stopped and detained two vehicles--one Mahindra Scorpio and one Mahindra XUV-500 .

While checking the Mahindra XUV that was driven by Len David Sauntak, the police personnel found three bags containing soap cases of heroin powder.

Len David Sauntak revealed that the three of them, he along with Lunminsang Haokip, the driver of the Mahindra Scorpio and Mangkholun Haokip were transporting the heroin powder to Senapati to be handed over to RK Poukhurou.

A police team then rushed to Senapati and picked her up from TNK approach road.

Later, the police team along with Executive Magistrate searched the three bags and found them containing 351 soap cases of heroin powder.

The heroin powder including the soap cases weigh 15.011 kilograms and its value in the international market is around Rs 100 crore, said the police.

After registering a case under relevant sections of the ND&PS Act at Kangpokpi police station, the four were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class Kangpokpi where they were remanded to 8 days police custody till May 9 for smooth investigation.
