In yet another medical feat, Shija Eye Care Foundation, which is a unit of the Shija Hospital and Research Institute, located at Langol has successfully conducted Victretomy surgery of Vitreous haemorrhage with use of laser and scattered laser machine, also known as Victretomy machine, for the first time in Manipur.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at the auditorium of Shija Hospital and Research Institute this afternoon, Managing Director of the Institute Dr Kh Palin informed that the operation was successfully performed on April 22 last on a 67-year old woman patient suffering from Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy, in short PDR.
The Victretomy surgery conducted successfully on the patient by the doctors of the institute under the supervision of Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist Prof M Lala was first of its kind in Manipur, Dr Palin claimed.
Dr Palin further informed that considering eye as the most vital human organ and living up to its commitment of providing better health care, the Shija Eye Care Foundation would also be taking up necessary measures to ensure the provisions for facilities like Sutureless Cataract Surgery, Oculoplastic Surger ies, Visual Field Analysis, Fundus Fluorescein Angiography, Laser Surgeries for Retina, Cryopexy, Retinal Detachment Surgery and Vitrectomy for Vitreo-Retinal diseases are made available to the patients coming to the hospital of the institute for medical treatment.
The Managing Director also informed that with the main objective of helping the people in keeping their eye healthy, the Eye Care Foundation of the Shija Hospital and Research Institute would be sending its mobile team to all the districts of the State to conduct a free cataract operation drive from June.
During the course of the drive, the Institute would be providing not just free treatment but also facilities for free medicine and accommodation.
