Role of public broadcaster in elections stressed

A one day media workshop stressed on the role of Public Broadcaster in elections, with reference to the 16th Lok Sabha elections was held at Manipur Press Club today.
The workshop was jointly organised by Regional News Unit (RNU), All India Radio (AIR), Imphal and office of the Chief Election Officer (CEO), Manipur.
CEO, Manipur, O.Nabakishore, M.KananKumar, head of the station, AIR, Imphal and BB Sharma, retired joint director, AIR attended the inaugural function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In addition, programme executive officer, DDK, A..KKhogen, editor of The Sangai Express (Manipuri) Khogendro Khongdram, joint CEO, L.Prabin and editor in chief; ISTV, N.Brojendro also attended the programme as resource persons.
Speaking at the occasion, O.Nabakishore stated that role of media in the society is very important.
Media's widespread role in the society reaches every nook and corner and passes awareness and information to the public.
Media's role is heightened more at times of elections, as it motivates and encourages voters all over.
This awareness imparted by the media directs the public to take decisions for ethical and inform voting.
On the other hand, editor of The Sangai Express, Khogendro Khongdram highlighted on the scenario of paid news culture saying that the state has so far not witnessed any cases of paid news as no such cases have been found as yet.
Paid news in media is like the most dreaded disease cancer which slowly kills the whole body.
Likewise, Khogendro said that if paid news is inculcated in the state, then, it would bring down the moral of the whole media ethics and also it will be commercialised.
