Kangpokpi, January 24 2018:
The Kuki National Front-Nehlun (KNF-N) today declared its decision to boycott Republic Day in the hill districts of Manipur while calling a total shutdown on all the State and National Highways passing through the hill districts from January 25 evening till the dusk of January 26.In a statement, the outfit's information and publicity secretary, Gogou Vaiphei said that excluding the collective bandh called by the North East insurgent groups, KNF-N will carry out the total boycott of the Republic Day in all hill districts of Manipur on its own might and strength.
"KNF-N will ceaselessly boycott Republic Day until and unless the Government of Manipur and Central Govt, paves the way for creation of 'Kukiland' in letter and spirit', Vaiphei said while adding that the bandh will commence from the evening of January 25 till the dusk of January 26 .
A Kuki State permissible under the Constitution of India is our legitimate birthright; he said and added that since the Government has sidelined the Kuki National movement spearheaded by the Kuki National Assembly way back in the 1960s, the armed movement was launched.
Gogou Vaiphei further said that it is a universal fact that the Kukis, though the greatest Nation among many others, were divided by the British colonial ruler prior to independence into three different countries without their will, making them the smallest Nation in their respective settled countries, i.e.India, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
"Time has come to defeat the then disintegration policy of the mighty British at any cost", he asserted.
The outfit's information and publicity secretary further said that many brave comrades since 1987, who took up the armed struggle, had lost their life and "we therefore need to sacrifice ourselves to regain the lost territory of Kuki inhabited areas and transform them into one Nation and one administration by crushing the provisional boundaries of the tri-Nations of south and south-east Asia" .
While urging all concerned to cooperate during the bandh to avoid any untoward incident, the outfit said that the total-bandh will be strictly enforced in all hill districts, State and National Highways.
