Imphal, January 03 2015 :
All Manipur Student's Union (AMSU) held a two hour long meeting with the State Government on Dec 31 at the Chief Minister's office in connection with the discovery of human skulls and skeletons at the erstwhile Tombisana High School on December 25 last year.
The meeting came immediately after AMSU banned further construction activities in the site.
A six member delegation, headed by AMSU president Thiyam Naresh put forward a four-point agenda for discussion during the meeting which demanded immediate termination of construction works at the site until the completion of systemic excavation and scientific exhumation of the site, preservation of the skulls and skeletal remains collected from the site with full involvement of FIDAM representatives, revocation of the State's decision to hand over the investigation to CBI and to constitute a commission of inquiry instead headed by a retired Judge of impeccable integrity and strong legal mind.
While agreeing to let civil society groups, including FIDAM to monitor the area while digging, Chief Minister O Ibobi, PHED Minister, Education Minister and PWD Minister along with several other senior bureaucrats who attended the meeting, however, insisted upon the continuation of construction works and handing over the case to the CBI.
Expressing doubt over the whole investigation process, the Union, in a statement issued by its president has demanded fair and transparent procedures from the Government on the matter.
The Union further said that they would, in close co-operation with the families of the disappeared and other like minded civil societies, fight for their demands.
