Imphal, May 11 2025:
Burdened by the growing plight over the years, players practising Wushu and their guardians have appealed to the authorities concerned for expeditious resolution of issues pertaining State Wushu association.
The players and guardians today gathered at an entrance point of Hapta Kangjeibung to lodge their inconveniences and ever growing difficulties.
Speaking to the reporters, they maintained that the players have "stopped receiving financial assistance provided by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports" since 2019 following a crisis pertaining to the Wushu Association of Manipur.
Due to lack of financial assistance, families of the Wushu players have been shouldering a huge burden in meeting various forms of expenses, they said.
A player had to attend various trials and compete in National and international events.
Some families also have more than one player.
The expenditure has also grown unreasonably high in the last two years adding more woes to the families due to the ongoing ethnic conflict in the State as the players had to take flights to attend events and trials, they said.
To meet the expenses and support the players, some families have even sold their properties, they continued.
They expect some relief if the issue pertaining to the Wushu Association of Manipur is resolved but the matter is still pending in the High Court of Manipur, they said while further appealing to the High Court of Manipur to expedite the case and deliver a judgement as soon as possible considering the hardships of the players and their family members.
