Imphal, October 11 2026:
The Pongringlong Youth Club (PYC) has condemned the armed attack on Pongringlong Rongmei Naga village yesterday, allegedly carried out by armed Kuki militants.
In a statement, PYC said over 30 armed Kuki cadres advanced towards the village from multiple directions, forcing the outnumbered village guards to retreat.
The attackers allegedly set fire to 17 structures, including 14 residential structures belonging to six families and three community buildings.
Of these, 10 were reduced to ashes, destroying homes, food reserves, household belongings and livelihoods, PYC added.
The Youth Club stated that it was particularly reprehensible that neighbouring Kuki residents, who had historically depended on Pongringlong's land, forests and natural resources, are now associated with armed elements accused of attacking the village that had extended such goodwill.
It described the incident as a grave betrayal of neighbourly trust and peaceful coexistence.
The attack followed a gun attack on May 22, 2026, and the killing of village authority member late Chunjanglung Panmei by Kuki militants on June 8, 2026, the statement said, adding that Pongringlong village remained inadequately protected despite repeated incidents of violence.
PYC demanded immediate security measures, an impartial investigation, justice and accountability for the perpetrators, along with urgent relief, compensation and rehabilitation for the affected families.
It also appealed to the Government, departments concerned and civil society organisations to intervene immediately.
Stating that the residents of Pongringlong have suffered enough, PYC called for justice, protection and lasting peace.
