CM fetes Saikhom Mirabai Chanu

Imphal, January 27 2018:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh felicitated World record holder and World Champion weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu in a solemn function held at Chief Minister's Office today.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister said, "It is a proud moment for all of us that Mirabai Chanu became the first Indian after 22 years to claim a gold medal in 48 kg category at the World Weightlifting Championship." Commenting on the government initiatives for the sportspersons of the State, he stated that the government will try its maximum level to provide best offers to those players who brought laurels to the State.
He assured that the government will offer a suitable government job to Mirabai Chanu soon.
Mentioning that the State has a limited resource and has been dependent on Centre, the CM stressed that the new government has already started resource mobilisation at maximum level.
He mentioned that around 140 sports persons have been given government jobs till now.
He conveyed his best wishes for her future career and competitions.
On the occasion, Chief Minister handed over a sum of Rs 20 lakhs to Mirabai Chanu for her recent achievement.
During the function, Saikhom Mirabai narrated her pains and journeys to emerge as World Champion.
She appealed to the concerned authorities to construct well equipped hostels and provide essential facilities to nurture more sports persons in the State.
Minister for Forest and Environment Th Shyamkumar, Minister for PHED, Losii Dikho, Minister for Tribal and Hill Areas Development, N Kayasii, Chairman Manipur Pollution Control Board L Radhakishore, Chief Secretary RR Rashmi, Secretary (Sports) Bobby Waikhom, officials and well wishers of Mirabai Chanu attended the function.
