IGP, Zone II, L Kailun has appealed to the people to extend full cooperation and support to the police to prevent cases of abduction of innocent people by armed groups for ransom.
Speaking to media persons at City police station yesterday, the IGP said that on the intervening night of January 18 and 19, two workers of Hindustan Construction Co Ltd were abducted by some unknown but well armed individuals from Kangchup area for ransom.
Soon after the incident was reported at Sapormeina police station, a case was registered and a combined team of Imphal West, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur district police carried out a massive rescue operation (aided by vital support from the State Intelligence) .
During the massive search operation, Churachandpur district police were able to arrest a self styled commander in-chief of KNF-MC, identified as S Songkhogin Kipgen alias Hegin alias Gin alias Kennedy alias Joshua (43) s/o (L) Letkholun Kipgen of Phaikot (presently staying at Tuibong, Churachandpur) and another cadre of the outfit identified as Ngamkholen Kipgen alias Lelen alias Joel (45) s/o (L) Kaikholen Kipgen of K Muolzol, Kangpokpi (presently staying at Churach-andpur) .
The IGP further narrated that during preliminary interrogation, the two arrested individuals revealed vital information in connection with the location of the two abducted workers of Hindustan Construction Co Ltd.
Acting on the information, the police carried out massive search and rescue operation at Phailenkot hill range (Motbung area) under Sapormeina PS.
During the operation, the police were able to rescue the two abducted individuals, although the abductors had fled from the spot before the police arrived, the IGP added.
