61st CC Meet : TRAU edge out KPFC 2-1 to reach quarter final

Imphal, March 28 2019: Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU), Kwakeithel sealed a 2-1 win against KPFC, Bishnupur to secure the last 8 round berth of the ongoing 61st Sir Churachand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament organised by All Manipur Football Association at Football Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak.

Princewill Olariche Emeka shone in the match as he opened up the scoring with a header and set up another to help TRAU earn a 2-1 win and a quarter final spot.

It was a neck to neck competition in the first half as both teams looked forward to the quarter final berth but it were TRAU which got the lead in the 27th minute when Princewill Olariche Emeka headed home on Mayosing Khongreiwoshi's cross into the box.

KPFC also replied back positively but TRAU defence made a firm stand to deny any change in the scoreline till the end of the first half.

KPFC made a serious return after the restart and successfully manage to draw level in the 49th minute capitalising on a defensive lapse of the Kwakeithel side which had earned the title of the tournament on multiple occasions.

It was perfect combination between L Chingkheinganba and S Sabi as the former made a perfect aerial cross into the box and S Sabi made a perfect timing to head the ball past the TRAU keeper.

The game intensified right after the equaliser as TRAU were relentless in their attempts in search of the winner but KPFC keeper Sanaton produce a fine display making good saves many a time to prevent the Second Division League side from taking over the game for a while.

Joseph Mayowa however helped TRAU's find the lead in the 66th minute as he cracked a powerful shot off a Emeka cross from the left flank.

Kh Krishnananda must have got his name on the scoresheet but he miss the cross by Emeka and Joseph Mayowa was in right place to make up his error.

TRAU enjoyed most of the possession in the latter part of the game but the Bishnupur side managed to hold their ground and thwarted all following attacks from the dominant TRAU although they could not come to the level term.

Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong will meet Sagolband United in the third quarter final clash of the tournament on March 30 at 1.30 pm while TRAU, Kwakeithel will meet Laban SC, Shillong in the last quarter final match on March 31 at 1.30 pm .
