Ashuli memorial volley tourney begins

The 1st edition of Sepoy K Ashuli Memorial Open Volleyball Tournament, 2025 commenced on Monday at Mini Stadium, here, with the participation of 10 men's and eight women's teams.
The tournament is organised by 16 Assam Rifles in coordination with the Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM) as part of a special initiative to honour local heroes.
Vir Chakra recipient Sepoy K Ashuli, who was from Makhan Centre village in Senapati district, joined the 1 Naga Regiment in 1992, made the supreme sacrifice on July 23, 1999 during the Operation Vijay at Kargil and attained martyrdom at the age of 23 years.
Ashuli was awarded the Vir Chakra posthumously for his outstanding courage, devotion to duty and supreme sacrifice.
Speaking on the occasion, 16 Assam Rifles' Senapati COB company commander Maj NM Singh recalled the valour of Sepoy K Ashuli and his love for the nation.
In his memory, the first Late Ashuli, Vir Chakra Open Volleyball tournament, 2025 is being organised, said the company commander and expressed hope that the competition would be held every year in honour of those who sacrifice selflessly for the nation.
The women's teams include Maram Sisters, Hoivah Memorial Team (CCpur), Senapati Sporting Club, Taphou Phyamai, TRYVC (Kamjong), Senapati Sporting Club (Reserve), KKYSO and Teenstars (KPI) while the men's title will be contested by TRYVC (Kamjong), Senapati Sporting Club (Reserve), Prime Hostel (KPI), Mareiri, Youngster VC, BVC (CCpur), Senapati Sporting Club, Spartans (KPI), KKYSO and DN Brothers (KPI).
The tournament will continue till April 11 .
