KIYG 2025: Manipur claim fencing medals, eye podium finishes in boxing, tennis & badminton

Imphal, May 11 2025:
Manipur claimed two bronze medals in fencing on Day 8 of the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 and also advanced in boxing, tennis, and badminton.
In fencing, Kangabam Prithibiraj Singh clinched a bronze medal after a hard-fought semifinal against Haryana's Sachin, narrowly losing 11-15, in the individual boys' foil event.
Meanwhile, in the individual girls' sabre event, Pangabam Ambika Devi also secured bronze, falling to Haryana's Taanvi with the same scoreline of 11-15 in the semifinals.
The Manipur girls' football team faced a tough challenge in the semifinals, suffering a 0-5 defeat against Jharkhand.
However, they still have a chance to finish on the podium as they prepare to take on Haryana in the third-place playoff.
In boxing, Radhamani Longjam continued her strong run in the featherweight (54-57kg) category, advancing to the semifinals and keeping Manipur's medal hopes alive.
On the tennis court, Shanker Heisnam shone as he stormed into the semifinals with a commanding 2-0 (6-3, 6-4) victory over Punjab's Hitesh Chauhan.
In badminton (boys' singles), Hemam Malemnganba Singh dominated his quarterfinal match against Tamil Nadu's Santosh, securing a convincing 2-0 (21-9, 21-11) win to book his place in the last four.
