Imphal, March 15:
Reiterating their stand against the land allotment of Maibam Lokpa Ching, 'Red Hill' to 22 Maratha Light Infantry, womenfolk of Nambol Chingmang today staged a sit-in-protest in front of Nambol MLA and Agriculture Minister Nameirakpam Loken's Sagnaiprou residence.
Speaking to media-persons, secretary of the JAC instituted in this regard, Lairenlakpam Debala asserted that even an inch of land would be given to Army in any condition.
Asking the reason why Government tries to establish an Army post at 'Red Hill' even though there is another Army post just a kilometre away from the said area.
Despite the assurance made by local MLA, measurement and land survey were conducted today at the proposed area, and that is why they are staging the protest since 10 am today, she added.
She further said that the JAC would intensify its agitation if the Government does not change its decision.
Womenfolk of the same locality had staged another sit-in-protest on March 13 at Maibam Chingmang in this regard.
It may be mentioned that an agreement was signed between Nambol SDO and Commanding Officer of the 22 Maratha Light Infantry on December 31 last year for temporary allotment of 2.41 acre of land in the north east spur of 'Red Hill' (CS dag Number 1606) under revenue village number 23 Maibam.
