Imphal, March 16: In protest against the move being made by the State Government to set up an eco-tourist park at Yellang Loukon also known as Yaralpat located near Nongmaiching foothill, people of the local area staged a Wakat Meepham at Top Makha Leikai today.

The protest demonstration was staged under the main aegis of Yellang Loukol Protection Committee (Loumee Lup).

The foundation stone of the proposed eco-tourist park had been laid by Governor Dr SS Sidhu on December 14, 2006. People of the area said that the Loukon (agricultural land) has been their main source of livelihood since the days of their forefathers.

While appealing for an alternative site for setting up the proposed park, the aggrieved local people have also made known their stand of facing every challenges in case the Government tries to use force and take away their land forcefully.

The Yellang Loukon Protection Committee has also categorically stated that the Government should be held responsible for any eventuality in this regard.
