Racial attacks on NE people decried

Decrying increasing violent activities including rape and murder committed against the people from north east States at different parts of the country, a sit-in-protest demonstration was staged under the aegis of Students' Movement of India in front of Thangkhul Church, Chingmeirong here today.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, Solomon L Ralsul, secretary of Students Movement of India, North East said north eastern people are also just like any other Indian residing in different parts of the country and have equal rights.
But they are being targeted because of their different look, food habit and lifestyle.
He demanded an Anti-Racial Discrimination Bill be passed by the Central Government at the earliest for ensuring protection to the north eastern people residing in different parts of the country.
Several placards inscribed with slogans like, 'We Want Peace, We Want Truth', 'We Condemn Discrimination', 'Pass Anti-Racial Discrimination Bill' etc were used during the protest demonstration.
