Imphal, November 27 2009:
Taking a serious note of the long standing debate whether Lois should be categorised as Scheduled Caste or not, the National Commission for Scheduled Caste has suggested the State Government to settle the matter without further delay.
A team of the Commission arrived at Imphal today on a two day visit to the State.
The five-member team led by Vice-Chairman NM Kumble made the suggestion during a meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi and State officials at State Guest House today.
After making a detailed review of the central sponsored schemes meant for Scheduled Caste, the team asked the State Government not to divert funds sanctioned for SC to other sectors.
They also discussed about reservation for SC in job recruitment.
Besides calling on the Governor, the team also interacted with SC MLAs and student leaders.
They will leave Imphal tomorrow.
However, under the same scheme two youths have been recommended recently for undergoing MBBS course, conveyed a source.
The bereaved father said that he had received Rs 50,000 as ex-gratia and nothing more.
