Following an understanding with the Government after a joint meeting with the LMS Law College Students' Union, normal classes of the college would be resumed from tomorrow.
Announcing this during a press conference, Union president Thokchom Okenjit informed that after a meeting with the Education Minister on February 16 to discuss the demands of the student body, a joint meeting attended by College Principal, Education Minister, Director of Education (U) and the student representatives was held today and considering the demand of the students, the State Government has issued an order to the effect of sending three guest lecturers.
As to the demand of improving the existing infrastructures of the college, the Government has entrusted the PDA as the work agency for implementing of work order of Rs 2 crores sanctioned for the year 2007-08.Furthermore, the Government has given the assurance of taking up the issue related to inclusion of another Rs 2 crores in the State plan for further infrastructural development of the college during the upcoming Budget session of the Assembly due to commence from February 20, Okenjit informed.
As to the demand of the Union for providing facilities for college library automation and internet connectivity, the Government has assured inclusion of the law college among the five colleges to be selected for the purpose along with releasing necessary fund, he said, adding that the Government has also assured sending three more teachers to the college after the end of the Budget session.
Describing as unfortunate the attitude of the Government not to listen to the genuine demands of the people until and unless some destruction form of agitation has not been resorted to, the student leader said that even if some disturbance has been caused to the academic session of the college while launching the agitation in the interest of the students, the normal classes of the college would resume from tomorrow.
He also appealed to all the students of the college to attend the classes regularly from tomorrow.
