Kangpokpi to enforce Single Use Plastics ban from May 25

In a decisive move to combat environmental degradation and promote sustainable living, the District Administration of Kangpokpi has issued a stringent order enforcing a complete ban on Single Use Plastics (SUPs), in line with the Manipur Plastic Policy, 2022 and the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 .
The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, underscores the districts commitment to the state-wide ban that came into effect on April 15, 2025.Despite the existing ban, reports have surfaced of continued use and distribution of SUPs by individuals, vendors, shopkeepers, and distributors across the district.
Effective from May 25, 2025, anyone found manufacturing, importing, stocking, distributing, selling, or using banned SUP items will face strict legal action under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and Section 10 of the Manipur Plastic Policy, 2022.The ban items includes plastic carry bags (virgin or recycled) thinner than 120 microns; PET/PETE bottles under 1-litre capacity for drinking water; non-woven plastic carry bags with a thickness below 60 GSM; polystyrene and expanded polystyrene products, including earbuds with plastic sticks, balloon sticks, plastic flags, candy and ice-cream sticks, plastic cutlery (Spoons, forks, knives, straws, stirrers), trays and wrapping films for sweet boxes, invitation cards, cigarette packets and PVC/plastic banners under 100 microns.
The DC has directed all relevant departments to ensure strict enforcement of the regulations.
Authorities are tasked with taking prompt action against violators to ensure full compliance and promote responsible waste management practices.
