NCTC cannot deter liberation movement: RPF

Imphal, May 10 2012: The proscribed RPF has categorically stated that a thousand NCTCs cannot deter the liberation movement of Manipur.

Questioning when would a secure and progressive society be established in Manipur which has been reeling under the alien rule for the last 63 years, the outfit alleged that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi's role in the Indo-Manipur conflict which is in its most nascent stage is nothing better than a mad man's tantrums.

Ibobi was irrationality personified when he openly endorsed the purported need for National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) .

"Numerous militants were undertaking all kinds of subversive activities, extortion and abduction for ransom were rampant, intimidation of Government officials and contractors were too frequent, well-equipped militants sneaking through porous Indo-Burma border were extorting huge amounts of money from contractors, suppliers, Government officials and engineers" .

There were some of the reasons cited by Chief Minister O Ibobi in his efforts to justify his support for NCTC, the outfit noted in a press statement issued by its Publicity Secretary T Leisemba.

Asking who was responsible for all the untoward incidents and terrifying events taking place in Manipur today, the outfit asserted that the blame for all unwanted incidents that took place during the long years of British rule in India should go to the colonial British rulers, not Indians.

By the same logic, the Government of India, which is allegedly following the footsteps of expansionist British imperialists should be held responsible for the unwanted incidents taking place in contemporary Manipur.

Alleging that the local politicians of Manipur have adopted an abominable attitude of sycophancy and subservience over the last 60 years, the RPF lambasted the recent meeting between O Ibobi and Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde where the latter gave a patient hearing to Ibobi's report on the power situation of Manipur but gave no assurance to improve it.

Whereas Ibobi was seeking India's blessing like a sycophant, Manipur has enough resources of its own.

The problem is lack of knowledge and capacity on the part of the State Government to exploit the resources for common good, the outfit claimed.

Under the alien rule, large swathes of forest areas of Manipur have been cleared and deforested thereby creating artificial flood as well as drought, more than 80,000 paddy fields have been inundated, means of livelihood of thousands of families settling around Loktak Lake have been forfeited and hundreds of fishing families have been rendered homeless after their hut were burnt down, the outfit stated.

O Ibobi who once proudly declared to provide adequate power supply after clearing phumdis off Loktak Lake has reportedly turned back on his own promise and was seeking blessing of the Union Power Minister without any reservation, it added.
