Seminar on Manipur tribal rights

A one-day Seminar on Manipur tribal rights held at Chandel on Saturday resolved to protect Manipur tribal land, customs, culture, tradition and forest within the framework of Indian constitution, our correspondent reports.
The seminar which was organized jointly by All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU), All Tribal Chiefs and Public Grievances Forum, Chandel and Tribal Research Institute also resolved to seek the withdrawal of the 3 Bills recently passed by Manipur State Asembly stating that the Bill not only have many constitutional loopholes and contradictions against the Indian Constitution but also violate the rules, proceedings and conduct of business of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Former parliamentarian and MLA BD Behring who was the resource person of the seminar held under the theme ' Manipur rribal inherent rights and its current issues' spoke on the repercussions of the 3 Bills.
During the seminar, a hand�out on Tribal Traditional Method of forest conservation and its relevance in modern age which was prepared by DFO of Tamenglong, Huri Gonmei was also presented for discussion.
At the outset of the programme, former Minister DP Panmei who is also the president of AMTU delivered the key note address while vice-president of ATC&PGF Th Guite welcomed the participants.
Village chiefs, public leaders, representatives from various Kuki and Naga tribes and other organisations, intellectuals and the general public attended the seminar which was also marked by interaction, discussions and adoption of resolutions.
