The Ist HSLC Examination Meritorious Students Prize Distribution, 2008-09 of Sugnu Kendra was held at Sugnu Community Hall today.
Along with distribution of prizes to the meritorious students, the function organised by Development Committee, Sugnu also accorded warm welcome to the newly elected MP of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Thangso
Baite.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Education Minister L Jayantakumar described education as the mirror of the society and said quality education is essential for development of a society.
So young students should be encouraged in pursuit of education.
On the efforts being made by the Govt to improve the standard of education in the State, the Minister said the Govt has started imparting education to the students along with providing facilities which are not even available in private schools.
In continuation of this effort, a new principal would be appointed for the Sugnu Hr Sec School which is offering Science, Arts and Commerce streams very soon and other required teachers would be posted before commencement of the session for class XI, the Minister assured.
Works Minister K Ranjit who presided over the function observed that under a policy, the Govt has been making all out effort to improve the standard of education system in the State that had been plagued by various ills for more than 20/30 years.
Decrying politics in education, the Minister said politics should be kept away from educational institutions.
On lack of adequate infrastructures in the CHC of Sugnu which is fast becoming an important place in southern part of Manipur, Ranjit informed that gathering that a sum of Rs 2.54 crores has been earmarked under NRHM to take care of the infrastructural requirements.
