Imphal, August 05 2011:
The issue of upgrading Sadar Hills to a full fledged district was discussed in detail by the State Cabinet but the meeting stopped short of taking any concrete decision.
Nevertheless, it decided to bring in the vehicles currently stranded at Senapati through an alternative route.
A senior Cabinet Minister informed that the Cabinet meeting was presided by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and they discussed the Sadar Hills issue at length but a concrete decision eluded the meeting.
Nonetheless, the State Cabinet agreed that the demand for upgrading Sadar Hills into a district was justified and that the same should be fulfilled.
However, the Cabinet meeting noted the need to examine and deliberate the issue more minutely before taking any action.
The meeting also discussed about bringing the stranded vehicles to Imphal through an alternative route.
At present, around 400 passengers remain stranded at Senapati.
Though the Cabinet meeting also deliberated on the demands of FECTAM and COTA, the same matter was referred to the next meeting citing incomplete procedures/documents on the part of Finance Department.
