Imphal, April 05:
Precious items especially gold ornaments of historical relevance which were recovered during earth digging works from various places years back would be put on display for public view at the State Museum gallery for atleast five days.
According to an official source, the items which were tugged away in the strongroom of the Museum due to security reasons would be placed in the gallery in conformity with tremendous public demand for witnessing the antiquities.
It is informed that among the precious items kept in the strongroom gold ornaments found atop Cheiraoching in 1999 is of high value for its purity and is the most sought-after artifacts which ironically had to be kept away from public view owing to uncertainty in the law and order situation of the State.
Even though no confirmation could be made on whether the display period would be in a year or month, the source conveyed that when the items are exhibited security arrangement would be fool proof including increasing the number of security personnel and keeping the items inside bullet proof glass enclosures.
The State Museum itself is located in a high security zone with the Governor's bungalow on the southern side, security facility (camp) on the eastern flank and headquarters of the fire service department to the west of the Museum's building.
Further maintaining that repairing/renovation works of the State Museum building is on the anvil, the source said necessary fund had already been deposited for repairing the leaking roof and replacement of the gallery glasses with bullet proof material (glass).
