An emergency meeting of the two associations (old and new) of Tata Sumo owners doing taxi service along Imphal-Moreh route has decided to suspend taxi service along the route indefinitely with effect from today.
A press release issued by the Moreh-Imphal Jeep and Tata Sumo Taxi Service Welfare Association informed that decision to suspend the passenger/goods taxi service was adopted because of huge monetary demands from many banned underground groups.
The emergency meeting held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound today also resolved to appeal to all the armed groups operating in both the hills and valley to withdraw the monetary demands, it conveyed.
Meanwhile, all the vehicles plying along ImphalMoreh route under the Indo-Burma Self-Employed Van Association have also decided to suspend service along the route with effect from tomorrow.
Truck vanishes, driver found dead: A truck carrying rice for FCI from Dimapur to Imphal has mysteriously vanished after crossing Sekmai check post.
However, the driver of the truck was found hung to death this morning.
The truck crossed Sekmai check post on March 30 but vanished on the road to Imphal.
The deceased driver is identified as Nameirakpam Inao (40) s/o Achou of Sagolband Khamnam Leirak.
He was found hung to death from a neem tree growing not far away from his home.
The rice laden truck still remains untraced.
