Out of the total nine aspirants who have taken nomination papers to contest in the Rajya Sabha election, only two submitted their nomination papers to the Returning Officer on the last day of filing the nominations today.
The two aspirants who submitted their nomination papers are Rishang Keishing, who is not only a seasoned politician of the Indian National Congress but also the sitting MP of Rajya Sabha and Ex-MLA BD Behring, as candidate of the National People's Party.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers would be done on March 17 and March 19 has been fixed as the last date for withdrawal of the nomination papers.
MPCC president Gaikhangam, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Law and Legislative Affairs Minister Th Debendra, PHE Minister TN Haokip, Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board Elangbam Kunjeshore and vice president of MPCC T Mangibabu are the proposers of Rishang Keishing while the proposers of BD Behring are Independent MLAs Wungnaoshing Keishing, K Raina, Awangbow Newmai, W Morung Makunga, Khasim Ruivah, president of National People's Party V Hangkhanlien and Thangkholun Haokip.
Ahead of submitting his nomination paper by Rishang, a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party was held in the conference hall of Chief Minister with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in the chair at around 9 am today to discuss filing of the nomination paper.
The meeting finalised the names of the proposers and expressed confidence that Rishang would come out triumph in the election as AICC itself has named him as the party candidate.
