The two FIRs registered by the Irilbung PS on the death of thirty two year old Manorama have revealed sharp contrasts in terms of the nature in which the victim was killed.
FIR No 29 (7) 04 under Section 10/13 UA (P) Act, 307 IPC, 6 (1-A) IWT Act and 5 Expt Sub Act was registered by the Irilbung PS based on a report submitted by a personnel of 17 Assam Rifles on the morning of July 11.On the other hand, the same PS also registered another FIR on the same matter under No 30 (7) u/s 302/34 IPC following a complaint lodged by the younger brother of the deceased Manorama on July 12.The two FIRs have been submitted before the ongoing Manorama death inquiry commission.
In the FIR lodged by the AR, the AR authorities stated that based on specific information, a party of the 17 AR raided the house of Manorama, who is an active member of PLA in the wee hours on July 11.The party issued arrest memo to the family members it said adding that the party moved to deposit the arrested cadre to the nearest police station and accordingly message was passed to police control room to arrange for women police personnel.
On the basis of the information provided by the cadre, the party recovered one wireless set (Kenwood) and a Chinese made hand grenade, the complaint of the AR said.
Thereafter she took the AR party to Chingamakha, Nambol, Tulihal and finally to Yairipok.
On reaching Yairipok at around 3 am, she requested to get down from the vehicle to ease herself and fled towards the paddy field on seeing some farmers working in the field.
On seeing her fleeing the AR personnel ordered her to stop and fired some rounds in the air however she continued to run and the party subsequently fired at her legs and she succumbed to her injuries at 5.30 am at Ngariyan Yairipok road near Yairipok Maring Village.
On the other hand the younger brother of Manorama, in his complaint said his elder sister was arrested by the personnel of 17 AR around 12:30 am after issuing an arrest memo.
He lodged a written report for locating the whereabouts of his sister around 6:30 am but unfortunately her body was found killed at Ngariyan.
The commission headed by retired district and session judge C Upendra would start examining witnesses particularly the deceased family from July 24, the source added.
