Imphal, December 23 2024:
Congress Working Committee (CWC) Member and former Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has vehemently condemned the disparaging and disgraceful comments made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on BR Ambedkar, the Father of Indian Constitution.
On 17th December, while the discussion on "75 glorious years of the Constitution of India" was held in the Parliament, Home Minister, Amit Shah said "it is a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar if God's name is taken so many times then they would have attained heaven (Swarg) for 7 times" .
The tone and tenor of these remarks were clearly satirical in nature and were made in a very bad taste, Gaikhangam said in a press release.
After that the Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge demanded an unconditional apology from Amit Shah and also demanded his immediate resignation.
But instead of dismissing his Home Minister for such defamatory comments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi brazenly defended Amit Shah by doing 6 tweets.
"We condemn the statement of Amit Shah in Parliament against the father of the Constitution, Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and we demand immediate resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah.
"We will do everything possible to resist any onslaught on our Constitution and Democracy", Gaikhangam added.
