Frauds formally arrested

The three 19-year-olds, who impersonated Jay Shah and demanded huge amounts of money from MLAs here, have been formally arrested by the police and taken to custody till March 25 .
Imphal police formally arrested the three yesterday when they were produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West.
The accused persons have been identified as Uvaish Ahmed (19) of Nidhauri Kala, Etah Uttar Pradesh; Gaurav Nath (19) of Sapera Basti Gharoli PS, Ghazipur, East Delhi; and Priyansu Pant (19) of Mayur Vihar Phase III, East Delhi.
The three were in the Court of the CJM Imphal West after completion of their police custody period in connection with a case related to a fraudulent call they made to MLA K Robindro's cousin brother.
On February 14, impersonating Jay Shah, Amit Shah's son, the accused persons called MLA K Robindro's cousin brother Kongkham Basu Singh.
In the call, the accused persons demanded huge amounts of money in return for inducting MLA K Robindro as the Chief Minister in a likely to be formed Council of Ministers of the State.
In the Court yesterday, the Assistant Public Prosecutor appealed for judicial custody of the three for smooth investigation.
While the Court agreed to the prayer and ordered the remand of the accused persons to judicial custody, Imphal police then filed an application for effecting formal arrest of the three in another case of same nature involving Manipur Legislative Speaker Th Satyabrata.
The Court after hearing the submissions of APP, allowed the police to make formal arrests, and further remanded them to police custody till March 25 for smooth investigation of the case.
Notably, the three were arrested in Delhi and Uttarakhand recently and they were brought to Manipur on March 11 .
