Imphal, October 17 2026: The Coordinating Body of Trade Unions Manipur (CBTUM) has asserted that the dismissal of MP Prof Dr Bimol Akoijam from JNU based on fabricated charges was a conspiracy aimed at putting BJP at an advantageous position in the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly election.

Speaking to media persons at Irabot Bhavan here today, CBTUM chairman L Sotinkumar said that the dismissal of Dr Bimol from JNU allegedly at the behest of BJP and ABVP lacked procedural fairness and institutional accountability apart from evoking serious questions on the legal and regulatory frameworks.

The dismissal of Dr Bimol from JNU based on fabricated charges at a time when the country's youth have been demanding removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar for working in vested political interest is highly condemnable, he said.

Sotinkumar said that the CBTUM will stand firm for truth and justice, and its next course of action will be decided at a public meeting which would be held at Irabot Bhavan on October 19 together with representatives of civil society organisations.
