Imphal, February 15:
A joint team of AMSU and DESAM, will investigate the alleged graft charges levelled against the Principal of National Sports Academy.
The Principal is being accused of financial mismanagement with regard to bill clearance for the catering service of the student sportspersons against which the Principal had denied any misdemeanour on his part.
Interacting with news-persons at DESAM's office this evening its advisor PC Newton pronounced that the joint inquiry committee would probe into the alleged mess in footing the bill to Ms Tandoor Mahal for the firm's service for 71 days and its findings would be made public at the earliest.
He contended that the catering firm submitted a bill amount of Rs 4,26,120 to the Director of Youth Affairs and Sports which was further referred to the Academy Principal.
With the Principal rectifying the figure to Rs 3,61,088 and forwarding the same to the Director's there is a strong case to suspect that official/s involved in the bill matter had been eyeing to pocket the differing amount (Rs 65,032), insisted the student activist.
Apart from the difference between the officials and catering service provider, Newton contended that the Academy Principal had prepared a separate bill amount of Rs 7,30,800 for the 71 day service and the same was forwarded for the Director's approval.
Announcing that the joint investigation committee would also look into what compulsion led to cessation of annual sports meet of educational institutions under the Government, Newton said DESAM and AMSU would work in tandem that concerns common interest and called upon other student organisations to join hands for all the good cause.
Joining the media briefing, AMSU president Khamba Laishram stressed on the urgent necessity for constant consultation and cooperation from all concerned.
