Ranjit dismisses talks of Cong supping with BJP

Imphal, May 14 2025: Congress leader and MLA Kangujam Ranjit has denied any crack within the party and ruled out any possible alliance with the BJP to form a Government in the strife-tom State.

The 5 MLAs of the Congress in the 60-seat State Assembly are the only MLAs clearly sitting on the Opposition bench.

Any rumour or wild speculation about an alliance of the Congress with the BJP to form Government is absurd, said MLA K Ranjit, speaking to The Sangai Express over the phone.

There are speculations doing the rounds on social media.

There will be no alliance of any kind with the BJP to form Government, said the Congress' Deputy CLP leader.

Ranjit further said that there is no crack or infighting within the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).

The president of the MPCC is appointed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for a period of 3 years.

The tenure of MLA K Meghachandra as the president ended in March this year.

The AICC is expected to appoint a president soon, Ranjit said.

The AICC may appoint MLA K Meghachandra for another 3 years or appoint a new person as the president.

It is for the AICC to decide, he said.

Ranjit further informed that former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi, CWC member and former Deputy CM Gaikhangam and party's chief whip Th Lokeshwar are in New Delhi at present meeting high commands of the AICC.

The State Congress leaders led by former CM O Ibobi are holding talks with the party high command on the overall Manipur issues, 3 months of the President's Rule in the State and many other issues.

Even after President's Rule has been imposed in the State, the conflict has not been resolved, and there is no free movement of people on the National Highways.

With Kukis blocking the road, Meiteis are unable to travel on the Highways safely, Ranjit said.

Amid President's Rule, there is very little progress in developmental works.

There is also frequent transfer and posting of officials.

The State Congress leaders are discussing all these issues with the party's Central leadership, Ranjit said.
