Imphal, April 07 2025:
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has assured that prefabricated houses would be constructed for the IDPs living under extremely difficult conditions at mandaps of different localities of Thanga Assembly Constituency.
Thanga AC MLA T Robindro today called on the Governor and the two talked about different current issues of the State.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, T Robindro said that there were around 2700 IDPs in Thanga AC but their number has come down to 1487 after some of them had gone to their own homes or relatives' places.

The IDPs have been living in mandaps, community halls and school grounds.
The Government was appealed repeatedly to build prefabricated houses for these IDPs but all the appeals fell on deaf ears.
Although such prefabricated houses were built in other Assembly segments, Thanga AC was left out, Robindro pointed out before urging the Governor to build prefabricated houses for IDPs in Thanga AC too.
Within Thanga AC, IDPs are currently lodged at Moirang Khunou Makha Leikai Mandap, Moirang Khunou Mayai Leikai Mandap, Moirang Khunou Chandapur Mandap, Moirang Khunou Mamang Sabal Mandap and Thanga Chingkha.
The IDPs face many problems and inconveniences when marriages and other religious functions have to be performed at these mandaps, the MLA told the Governor.
Robindro then urged Ajay Kumar Bhalla to build prefabricated houses for the IDPs so that they can stay there until they are settled permanently.
He further suggested that prefabricated houses may be constructed at Moirang Khunou and Kha Thinungei.
The Governor reportedly assured that prefabricated houses would be constructed at the earliest.
A grazing field at Moirang Khunou was acquired by the Government and renamed Unity Ground for development of Sangai Ethnic Park.
The then Government assured that an alternative site would be provided as a grazing field for the local people but no alternative site has been provided till date.
"I appealed to the Governor to provide the alternative grazing field as assured by the Government earlier", Robindro said.
In addition to the grazing field, an area measuring around seven acres was also acquired by the Government for development of a parking lot for the Sangai Ethnic Park.
The Government promised an alternative land for this area too, according to the Thanga AC MLA.
He said that he urged the Governor to initiate due process for providing an alternative land for the area acquired for development of parking lot.
Pointing out that there is not a single bank within Thanga AC, Robindro appealed to Ajay Kumar Bhalla to see that a bank branch is opened within his Assembly segment.
