Sodomy charge: One more accused arrested

Imphal, May 06 2025: One more individual has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault on minor boys who were staying at Mangal Football Academy, Khabam Lamkhai, Imphal East under Heingang police station.

Khangembam Shitaljit Meitei (28) of Heingang Panthoibi Leikai is the second accused and he has been remanded till May 12 to police custody.

The investigation revealed that Kh Shitaljit also committed sexual assault on minor inmates of Mangal Football Academy.

Subsequently, Kh Shitaljit was also arrested in connection with the case under Section 8 of POCSO Act, sources said.

Shitaljit was produced before a Duty Magistrate, Imphal East by a team of Heingang police station along with a prayer for police remand.

The Duty Magistrate, after hearing the submission of the prosecution and on perusal of the case record, remanded the second accused to police custody.

Notably, 41 years old Nongthombam Mangal of Khabam Maning Leikai who runs the Football Academy at Khabam Lamkhai was arrested on May 4 in connection with a case of sexual assault on minor boys.

The Duty Magistrate, Imphal East yesterday remanded Nongthombam Mangal to police custody till May 12.The matter came to light after the victims of the case informed their parents about the crime committed by the accused persons at their training ground and inside the academy.
