The Joint Co-ordinating Committee of the KYKL and UNLF has laid down a series of dos and don'ts for doctors, nurses, officials, staff and others concerned and added that the laid down dos and don'ts will be closely monitored by the Joint Task Force of Medical and Health.
Detailing the dos for doctors, officials and other health workers, the JCC in a statement issued today said that all should attend office regularly and to work until the working hour is over, to adhere to their place of posting in the rural areas as well as hill areas, to treat the patients humanely, doctors and nurses to stick to the internationally accepted norms of ethics, officials should strive their best to keep a hospital clean and hygienic, maintain discipline, create an atmosphere that gives hope to the ailing patient, take up efforts to ensure that life saving drugs, bandages, oxygen etc which are to be given free to the patients are available for the patients, maintain sincerity while recruiting employees, during admission time in medical schools, transfer of health workers and while awarding contract/supply works, contractors should also ensure quality control over any venture taken up while suppliers should only supply quality products.
Listing the don'ts for doctors, nurses, officials and employees, the JCC said that no employees should be in an inebriated state during office hours, doctors should not demand favours, either in cash or kind from the patient party in any manner, though presents in line with the culture of the land may be given by the patient's family after an operation, private doctors should not charge more than what has been announced earlier, Govt doctors should not indulge in private practices expect in extraordinary circumstances such as when there is no vacancy in the Govt hospital or in times of emergency, doctors should not direct the patient to go to any particular institution for getting their X-ray and other examinations without any valid reason, doctors should not specify any pharmacy to get the medicines or letting the patient party to return the same if not bought from the specified pharmacy, doctors should not be lethargic while treating any patient, officials should not accept or demand bribes while processing files, there should be no political influence during times of promotion or transfer and posting, officials should not dirty their hands while dealing with contract/supply works, contractors should not compromise on quality while executing their works, suppliers too should not compromise on the quality of the goods they supply.
The JCC also laid down certain guidelines for patient parties.
Patient parties should not blindly demand anything from the doctors or nurses without considering how busy they are, they should not confront doctors and nurses unnecessarily but allow them to work freely and patient parties should not treat the doctors without discipline, patient parties should not canvass for undue favour from doctors, offer bribes, offer expensive gifts, contact influential people to influence the doctors in their favour, patient parties should not blindly accuse the doctor whenever any patient passes away, if the patient parties have any serious doubt, then cases may be filed and the help of civil society organisations may be sought, patient parties should not dirty the hospital and its surroundings, not desecrate the sanctity of the hospital and stick to the rules of the hospital and use intoxcants inside the hospital.
