Imphal, October 21 2015:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has urged all tribe presidents, Naga and tribal frontal organisations, district and regional organisations to take up appropriate measures to ensure that the 48 hour total bandh called by the council, slated to begin from midnight of Oct 22 is strictly observed in their respective jurisdictions.
In a statement issued by the general secretary of UNC, S Milan, the UNC advised all concerned to stay alert with all preparedness against any forces of anti-social elements and State sponsored terrorism that may attempt to sabotage the peaceful and democratic peoples' movement.
Anyone found defying the directive shall be treated as 'anti-Naga' and 'anti-tribals' and should be at his/her own risk, it warned.
The UNC appealed to all the Naga and tribal people to extend untiring support and cooperation for the success and also fight unitedly till the long cherished political aspiration is achieved.
The UNC has called the 48 hour total bandh in the tribal hill districts of Manipur in protest against the infamous 'anti tribal Bills and Resolutions' passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on Aug 31, 2015 and consequential killing of 9 innocent civilians including a minor on Aug 31 and Sept 1 while defending their inalienable rights and whose bodies are still laying at the morgue of Churachandpur Civil Hospital.
In this connection, as a mark of protest against State hegemony and to draw the attention of the Union Government for its political intervention,, the UNC had imposed a 15 day ban on the construction work of National and International projects including Trans Asian Railways and had organised mass public protest rallies at Ukhrul, Chandel, Tahamzam (Senapati) and Tamenglong and had also submitted representations to the Government of India.
