Protests against killings gain momentum Nambol stages torch rally against killing

Imphal, January 21, 2011:
Decrying the killing of Chungkham Gambhir of Nambol Kakyai Mayai Leikai, who was an Arangpham by profession, a protest torch rally was taken out by the local people today.
In response to the joint call of the JAC formed in protest against the killing, the United Clubs' Organisation and the Meira Paibis, a large number of local residents came out and participated in the torch rally which was flagged off from Toma Kangjeibung of Nambol Kakyai Leikai and passed through every bylanes of Kakyai Mayai Leikai and its surrounding areas.
During the rally, the protestors shouted slogans decrying the killing and demanding peace in the area.
It may be recalled here that Gambhir was shot dead by some unidentified armed persons not far from his house in the night of January 11. So far no banned organisations have claimed responsibility for the killing and there is no report of any headway in the investigation of the murder and the motive is not clear till date.
