A day after the ten member Bangladesh team led by veteran lawmaker Abdur Razzak failed to land at Tipaimukh Dam site due to heavy downpour, a security personnel deputed alongside state officials early today went on a rampage killing a colleague, self and injuring one.
Sources from the interior village of Parbung said a 1st Bn IRB personnel on duty fired at his colleagues allegedly after a heated argument at around 7 am, the day the Bangla team made their second unsuccessful attempt to land on the dam site.
The incensed personnel identified only as Prem Kumar and three of his colleagues were positioned at Parbung Godown last night, said the source.
A heated debate ensued as they packed their beddings at around 7 today, leading him to go berserk with his service weapon, killing his colleague Letkholun Singsit of Kangpokpi on the spot and injuring another, Ginsuanmung of Zenhang Lamka, Churachandpur on his right leg.
Local police however were still dark on the identity of the victims as unreliable WLL phones were their only source of communication with their counterparts in Parbung.
Independent sources however claimed that the injured was being rushed here for medical
treatment.
Even then, considering the dilapidated road condition and the distance the team that has taken the injured is expected to arrived here only in the early hours of tomorrow.
Many civil and uniform officials from the district including DC/CCPur, Sumant Singh, CO 1st IRB, P Dhiren, Addl SP/CCpur Herojit Meitei were stationed at the interior village since 30 August to receive the visiting Bangla team.
It is worth mentioning here that 1st August is the raising day anniversary of the 1st IRB and is marked with gusto at the battalion hqtrs here with Asst Commandant S Punyaban Singh, in the absence of their CO, leading the celebration at 8 am today.
Since its inception in 1994, 1st IRB has so far lost 48 (excluding today's incident) of its personnel in the line of duty.
